FAQs

What is the Southeastern Massachusetts Time Exchange?

The Southeastern Massachusetts Time Exchange is a way for people to trade services without money.

How does it work?

You spend an hour helping someone— mowing their lawn, driving them to the doctor, teaching them to cook, or anything else you can imagine! In return for one hour of your time, you get a Time Credit.

The Time Credit can then be used to get anyone else in the Time Exchange to help you with something you want or need. The more people that join, the more services are available to everyone!

Who can join?

Anyone who is able and willing to spend an hour of their time helping another person is encouraged to join!

How would Time Exchange help me?

Has there always been something you wanted to learn? Chores around the house you don’t want to do?  Have some extra free time? Skills that you would like to share with others? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions,  the Time Exchange is for you!

What about tax liability?

The IRS has ruled on several occasions that Time Credits, unlike normal barter, cannot be taxed. Click on the link below for a more in-depth discussion of the IRS’ ruling!

    Hi,

My wife and I live in West Barnstable on Cape Cod. Is there a group of members in this area?
